What Not to Expect:
You cannot swim in the crater lakes. The lake has dangerous, toxic, sulfuric water.
Getting Mount Kelimutu?
Mount Kelimutu is located in the center of Flores. The closest airports are in Ende ( ENE ) and Maumere ( MOF ). From both airports, ride to Moni, the closest village to Mount Kelimutu.
- From Ende to Moni takes 2.5 hours.
- From Maumere to Moni. This driver bit longer, taking around 3-4 hours.
- By land from Labuan Bajo to Moni. This option is a very long journey, taking around 15 hours.
The tree-colored lakes of Mount Kelimutu are special for their naturally occurring phenomena. The local people here consider it a resting place for the departed souls.
These lakes change color dramatically and unpredictably from blue or green to red or black, making it one of the natural phenomena to be beheld by many.
