Senaru Trekking Route

The Senaru trekking route is the primary gateway to Mount Rinjani’s western crater rim (2,641 m) on Lombok Island. It is widely considered the best route for trekkers seeking shorter trips, dense tropical rainforest scenery, and spectacular sunset views over Lake Segara Anak and Mount Agung in Bali.

Typical Itinerary & Landmarks

The trail is divided into several resting points known as “POS”:

  • Senaru Village to POS 1 (915 m): A gentle start through local coffee and cocoa plantations for about 1.5–2 hours.
  • POS 1 to POS 2 (1,500 m): Entry into dense tropical rainforest. This “shadow trail” offers protection from the sun and takes about 2–3 hours.
  • POS 2 to POS 3 (2,000 m): Continued ascent through the jungle for roughly 2 hours. Expect to see wildlife like the rare black ebony leaf monkey.
  • POS 3 to Crater Rim (2,641 m): The trail leaves the forest and enters open savanna and rocky terrain. This final push takes about 1–2 hours and is significantly steeper.
