Best surf spots Lombok Island Indonesia

Often overlooked due to the growing popularity of neighboring Bali, the island of Lombok remains a little hidden gem that has also seen a steep climb in tourism in recent times. Whether it’s visiting the Gili islands, climbing Mount Rinjani, or surfing Desert Point, people slowly realize how beautiful and diverse Lombok is.

As far as surfing goes, the main area to aim for is on the south side of the island. Desert Point is a bit off the beaten track on the southwest tip of Lombok and should only be an option for the most experienced surfers. This wave is one of the best waves in the world but also very dangerous.

Where to go – Best surf spots in Lombok?

If you are a beginner surfer, the best spot for you we recommend is Senggigi, West Nusa Tenggara. Senggigi area is the best place for beginners and fewer surfers. Senggigi area offers more than 5 surfing spots which means everyone will learn faster and more safely than in crowded spot.

For advanced surfers, a safer option is Mawi, Gerupuk, and Ekas which are all located around the Kuta area. If you go to the West and North side of Lombok Island Senggigi and Gili Trawangan are the best surf spot to visit as well. Although they are less dangerous than Desert Point, they are still very challenging waves for intermediate and advanced surfers.

Overall, Lombok is an excellent choice for a surf trip that will be a little further away from the crowds without sacrificing any quality of surfing. For an even more remote experience, visit Sumbawa, Indonesia’s true hidden gem.

When to go?

The best time to surf in Lombok is from November to March will be more rainy and the waves turn slightly south which is good for the whole south side of Lombok.

From April to October which represents the dry season with favorable SW waves.

Is Senggigi good for surfing?

Yes, if you are beginner to intermediate level, Senggigi is available all year.

How busy is Senggigi for surfing?

A famous surf spot known is Senggigi Reef. If the waves are on in Senggigi Reef, the spot will be busy with locals. But you don’t have to worry, most surfing spots nearby Senggigi are empty.

Other surfing spots we recommend to you to try:

Alang-Alang

Mangsit beach

Klui Beach

LG beach

Living Asia, and much more on the north side.

How can I check the wave in Senggigi?

The best app to view tides in the Senggigi area is to search for Senggigi Forecast. If you are in Senggigi will be great as a local to have valid information on the tide and wave conditions.

What should I do if I want to learn surfing from zero?

Try a surf camp program with less crowded surf spots. At these camps, you will get video analysis which means all the processes will be recorded. You can see yourself and get immediate feedback from your surf instructor.

How long do I need to learn the basic skill of surfing?

Depends on how fit are you, but it the best to try 7 days of surf camp. You will have all the basic skills of surfing from softboard to hardboard ( Longboard ).

The 3-day, 2-night Summit Rinjani trekking package via Sembalun. The trekking package is a popular choice for reaching the summit of Rinjani (3,726 metres above sea level). This climb is challenging, with a total distance of around 33.6 kilometres.

3-day, 2-night trek provides a full mountain traverse. The primary goals of the 3-day summit trek on Mount Rinjani are to reach the 3,726-meter peak. The most common 3-day route starts in Sembalun village and ends in Senaru village

Primary goals of the 3-day Summit Rinjani Trekking:

Experience a change of scenery. Walk through the open grassland and savanna starting from Sembalun village.

Enjoy a breathtaking sunset. Set up camp at the rim and watch the sunset over the crater and the surrounding landscape.

Reach the summit for sunrise. Begin the difficult, pre-dawn climb up the summit trail. It is extremely steep with loose volcanic scree (sand and gravel) and requires excellent stamina and mental focus. The reward is a magnificent sunrise with panoramic views of Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa.

Explore the crater lake and relax in hot springs. After descending from the summit, hike down into the caldera to the serene Segara Anak lake. You can soak your muscles in the nearby natural hot springs.

Crater Rim Rinjani: Camp overnight on the crater rims to enjoy spectacular sunset and sunrise views over the lake and caldera

Hike through the jungle. Make the long descent back to Senaru village, trekking through a lush, tropical rainforest.

Tour Pink Beach Lombok is designed like a picnic outing. It covers one full day stay on a quiet island in East Lombok, which is 92 kilometers from Senggigi. East Lombok offers many beautiful beaches with unique pink sand. Pink Beach on Lombok Island is the second pink beach in Indonesia after the Pink Beach on Komodo Island.
